Sea Line, Saudi Border away days...
Dukhan
is the centre of Qatar’s onshore oil industry and at the beginning of
the 20th century had the only aircraft landing strip in the country. The
security-gated complex owned by Qatar Petroleum (not open to the
general public) consists of both residential and production areas and
includes the first oil well drilled in Qatar, in 1938. Fossilized shark
teeth can be found in some of the shale hills and there is a popular
beach accessible to all. At the gates to Dukhan township, turn left and
follow the coast road for 9 km until reaching Dukhan Water Sports. The
tarmac road ends here, but to the south, you will find plenty of places
to stop. Although the beaches are sandy, there are sharp rocks under the
water, so beach shoes are advisable. - See more at:

To
get there, take the Al Ghariya turnoff 4.5 km beyond Fuwairit on the Al
Shamal (North) Road and follow the tarmac road, keeping to the right
when the road splits. Once the location of a desert camp for Qatar’s
scouting movement, Al Ghariya gradually developed into a small weekend
facility for other campers. There is a beach resort as well as a popular
sandy beach to the north with shallow water. - See more at:

An inland sea to the south of Qatar, Khor Al Adaid shares a side with
Saudi Arabia and has a shore in both countries. Four-wheel-drive
vehicles are necessary and only experienced drivers should attempt the
journey. Local tour operators also organise day trips and overnight
camps to the area.

The road to the Ras Abrouq beach (70km from Doha) passes by a wild deer reserve and through what looks like a deserted village but was actually built as a film set. The drive to Ras Abrouq affords views of a sweeping half-moon bay, flanked by rocky outcrops. Also known as 42km beach or the French beach – Maroona is a small beach 80km north of Doha. It’s a good place to enjoy the water but the sand is too fine and not quite suitable for pitching tents. This beach affords an unusual sight of eroded hills meeting the water’s edge. The area has a fine sandy bay with coves that make good picnic spots.
While Qatar is not as strict as Saudi Arabia when it comes to women’s attire, it still is an Islamic country and the sensibilities are quite different from those in the West. Expat women should be respectful of the dress code and keep their knees and shoulders covered and not wear anything too tight or revealing. The dress code becomes much more important during Ramadan and is enforced by special ‘clothes’ police who ensure ladies are covered appropriately.
Spend the day at Qatar's Sealine Beach Resort near the Arabian Sea. Go for a wild sand-dune ride, join a sports game at Qatar Ventures Camp, enjoy the views of the Qatar Maldives, and sit around a nighttime bonfire before camping out under the stars.

Lobuhole, Banjar Tonga, October 2013.
Huta hatubuan dohot huta inganan magodang.
Panorama indah kalau kita melihat dari dataran rendahnya, disana terhampar hutan luas yang belum pernah di lalui oleh orang.
Kampung’ means ‘village’ or ‘community’ in Indonesian. It sums up our travel philosophy – we all come from distant places but we’re all part of a world community. Travel is about enjoying the differences and diversity of other cultures but it also reveals how much we have in common.
Our approach to travel benefits both our clients and local communities. Our relationships with local hospitality and tourism providers and community organisations support the local economies while giving Kampung Expedition travellers authentic cultural experiences.
Kampung Expeditions supports interactive, sustainable tourism. This means that as far as possible:
- Our tours have minimal impact on the natural environment and local cultures
- We seek feedback about our activities from our local service providers
- We respect and support the local community by informing our travellers about local customs and sensitive cultural issues.
This fosters the local relationships that open doors to the communities for our clients. And by respecting the small details of local life, Kampung Expeditions offers bigger experiences – memorable encounters with people and places that could expand your understanding, and maybe also your view of the world.
